Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and flexible Direct Support Professional / Float to join our team in Farmington, New Mexico. In this role, you will provide essential support and care to individuals with developmental disabilities or special needs across various locations within our organization.
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and medication administration
- Implement person-centered care plans and support individuals in achieving their personal goals
- Promote independence and community integration through engaging activities and outings
- Monitor and document clients' progress, behaviors, and any changes in condition
- Maintain a safe and clean living environment for clients
- Communicate effectively with clients, their families, and other team members
- Adapt to different work settings and schedules as needed in the float position
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and crisis situations
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities
Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or GED Certificate and some education, training, and/or experience outside of high school in a related area.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by the float position.
- Must have all of the following: a sincere desire to provide direct service to individuals with developmental disabilities or other support needs, an ability to make sound judgments when given guidance, training and clear priorities; an ability to work as a team member to maintain consistency and quality in support services; a willingness to exchange constructive criticism, and ideas with other staff members.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with clients, families, and team members.
- Physical ability to assist clients with daily living activities, including lifting and transferring.
- Demonstrated patience, empathy, and compassion when working with individuals with special needs.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and record-keeping purposes.
- Knowledge of person-centered planning and positive behavior support techniques preferred.
- Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or in a caregiving role is highly desirable.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm in crisis situations.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
Additional Information
This position is designated as a driving position because it requires the transportation of persons served or driving a Dungarvin owned vehicle. Any employee in this position must comply with the requirements outlined in the POLICY AND PROCEDURE ON DRIVING AND THE USE OF MOTOR VEHICLES (A-8). All employees in this position must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record, as defined by our insurance carrier. An employee hired for a position that requires the employee to drive his/her own car is responsible for his/her own automobile insurance.
